INFORMATION
The Long Beach/Lakewood Chapter of Hearing Loss Association of
America meets the second Thursday of
each month at 6:30 PM.
Our meeting place is the Weingart Senior Center, located at 5220 Oliva
Avenue in Lakewood (see map on ABOUT US page).
We begin the meeting with welcoming and socializing for about 20
minutes. At this time, you are encouraged to check out an assistive
listening device to help you hear better.
We then proceed to the call to order, announcements, reading of minutes
and financial report. We introduce guests and ask that they give a short
resume of themselves including a brief history of their hearing loss.
The program follows. Members contribute refreshments for after-meeting
enjoyment.
We do not charge any dues. You can become a member of this Chapter
simply by attending three meetings in a row.
After you have visited once, you will be put on the distribution list
for our award-winning newsletter, “The Informer”. If you do not attend,
but would like to receive the newsletter, send $10.00 for a year’s
subscription to:EP Mathis, 63 St. Joseph Ave., Long Beach, CA 90803

and links to other state chapters!
Thanks to a grant from the Employees Community Fund of The Boeing
Company, we are pleased to have real-time captioning at each of our Long
Beach/Lakewood Chapter meetings. Being able to read what is being
said greatly enhances the experience of attending our gatherings!
Devices to help you hear better are available on loan at our meetings.
You will be assisted in borrowing and using the devices and accessories
that will best suit your hearing needs. At the conclusion of the
meeting, you are requested to return off the device and return it to the
table.
We have many books, publications, and videotapes available to borrow on
the hard of hearing condition. We also have many catalogs and papers for
your study and use.
We encourage you to ask questions. Meet people who have your same
problem. Learn how others learn and cope. That's what this
is all about. We look forward to meeting you!
